“Local product not available locally. How large retail chains are changing the market of small town” – a discussion panel of the 7th European Congress of Local Governments

Małopolska Innovation Rocket

During the second day of the 7th European Congress of Local Governments in Mikołajki, a panel discussion was held: “Local product locally unavailable. How large retail chains are changing the market of small towns “.

For many years, there has been a decline in the market share of independent stores and specialty stores, which is due to the increased competition of large-format stores. The increase in the presence of commercial networks, both domestic and, above all, foreign ones, applies not only to large and medium-sized cities, but more and more often to small towns and even villages. Many of the owners of independent stores, trying to stay on the market, decide, for example, to join franchise networks. What impact does this progressive process ultimately have on the product market and their availability to customers?
